MEF Survey on Management of Foreign Workers

​MEF Survey on Management of Foreign Workers identifies the latest developments, current issues and challenges faced by the employers in the management of foreign workers in Malaysia. The best practices in the Recruitment, Placement, Employment and Repatriation of foreign workers provided valuable insight for employers. A total of 210 member companies participated in the survey. The findings include:

  • 85.2% of the respondent companies were of the view that high turnover rate of local employees was the main reason to opt for recruitment of foreign workers
  • Employment of foreign workers was higher (31.9%) in manufacturing sector as compared to 29.3% in the non manufacturing sector
  • 81.3% of the respondent companies indicated that the foreign workers were paid based on National Minimum Wages followed by employment contract (44.6%)
  • the average monthly basic salary of foreign workers ranges from RM1,200 to RM1,758 depending on the length of service.
