The Malaysian Chinese Medical Association had proposed to the Ministry of Health to allow the Chinese Physicians or Practitioners to issue a medical sick certificate in certifying an illness or injury as a documentary evidence to the employers. MEF conducted the Survey on 29 January 2015 to obtain feedback and comments from members with regards to the issue.
Among the findings of the Survey were:
- 71.8% of the companies were of the view that the Chinese Physicians or Traditional Medical Practitioners should not be allowed to issue medical certificate for the employees as compared to 28.2% of the participants that agreed to this proposal.
- 85.9% of the participating companies indicated that they do not cover medical costs incurred by the employees for traditional medical treatment.
- If the traditional Chinese Physicians or Practitioners were to be allowed to issue medical sick certificate, 82.6% of the participating companies were of the view that this would lead to abuse or misuse of sick certification.
